Rail Service Coming to Connect Seaport to Back Bay?

A rarely-used track would connect the two busy Boston districts.

The Boston Globe reported Friday the state Department of Transportation has begun quietly setting in motion a plan that would connect two of the busiest areas of Boston, the Seaport and Back Bay, by rail service.

According to the paper, the state already owns the scarcely-used Track 61 that would serve as the basis for the rail line. When the line gets going, state officials are looking at using a more "affordable" rail car known as the diesel multiple unit, or DMU.
