Berklee brings music therapy to the 75 pianos around the city's public spaces
Have you seen the pianos filling city nooks and crannies, ripe for the playing? Play Me, I'm Yours! is an art installation by Luke Jerram that places pianos in public spaces for the enjoyment of the community.
Berklee is playing a special role in Boston's Play Me, I'm Yours exhibition by declaringSeptember 29 the Play Me, I'm Yours! Music and Wellness day. At 3:00 p.m. on September 29, a "flash mob for health" will take place through a partnership with Berklee's Music Therapy department, Longwood Symphony Orchestra, and M. Steinert & Sons. One-hundred thirty-five Berklee music therapy students will go to the pianos and conduct mini-music therapy sessions. They'll play relaxing music and speak about music therapy for interested people. The call to action has also gone to members of the MA and New England Music Therapy Associations, so music therapy should be popping up all over the city.
If you're curious about music therapy - one of the many treatments that helped Congressperson Gabrielle Giffords recover from the gun attack in 2011 - don't hesitate to visit one of the many pianos around the city on September 29 to learn more.
