Harvard's Ogletree Joins Team Charlotte!

BOSTON, MA – Harvard Professor Charles Ogletree just signed on to support the campaign of Boston mayoral candidate Charlotte Golar Richie.

“I am pleased to join Charlotte's campaign as a senior advisor,” said Ogletree. “She's an excellent candidate with deep roots in the community, rich experience in government and a vision for the city.”

Ogletree is the Harvard Law School Jesse Climenko Professor of Law and Founding and Executive Director of the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute for Race and Justice. He is a nationally recognized and influential legal theorist and former public defender, who has written extensively on race, justice, and the U.S. Constitution.  He taught law to both Barack and Michelle Obama while they were students at Harvard University and was Obama’s campaign chair when he first ran for the presidency.

“I am really pleased to have the support of Professor Ogletree, whom I respect and admire,” said Richie.  “One of our nation's most influential lawyers, he has a deep commitment to public service; and his knowledge and experience will be invaluable as we seek to find solutions to issues of concern to Boston residents.”

Richie is the only woman among the 12 candidates running to succeed longtime Mayor of Boston, Thomas M. Menino. With a strong background in federal and state advocacy, political activism, youth education and job training, housing and community development, and her own respected record in public service, Richie is a proven leader and seasoned administrator with strong ties to diverse constituencies.
