The Chilton Club was founded in 1910 as a private social club for high-society women and named after Mary Chilton, the first female passenger to disembark the Mayflower. It is very exclusive; it's website's content is inaccessible to non-members. Cell phones must be turned off upon entering, and you have to ring a bell for admittance. One can only imagine the gilded finery within.

In 1988, the Chilton Club bowed to new anti-discriminatory laws and began admitting men to the club. Street parking is for residents and visitors only, but metered parking is available on nearby Boylston Street.
