Established in 1856, the 32-acre Commonwealth Avenue Mall stretches from the Public Garden to Olmsted Park. It provides a green link in Boston's Emerald Necklace -- an 1,100-acre chain of nine parks connected by parkways and waterways. The Neighborhood Association of Back Bay, Friends of the Public Garden and the Boston Parks and Recreation Department work together to mainstain the green strip that runs down the center of Commonwealth Avenue.
