Officers observed a known suspect selling newspapers outside the Back Bay T station on Dartmouth Street at about 12:15 p.m. on Friday, January 25. Officers had tried to serve the suspect for outstanding warrants at his home, but were unsuccessful. The suspect was wanted on three outstanding warrants out of Quincy District Court for harassment prevention, operating an uninsured vehicle with an obstructed license plate, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct. Officers arrested William McCarthy of 54 Appleton Street, Quincy on the strength of these warrants.

Reports indicate the victim in a Back Bay Station robbery is conscious and alert.
A victim of a robbery at Back Bay Station is conscious and alert after sustaining a knife wound to the head, according to reports. The robbery took place near the customer service booth at the busy station, according to a report. Transit police are searching for the suspect. Officers shot and killed a suspect near Back Bay Station last week. Does the incident make you feel less safe in the area?
Many Back Bay residents were shocked last week to hear of a fatal police-involved shooting on Darmouth Street near Back Bay Station. Jon Sennett was bartending at Clerys on Tuesday night when he heard roaring sirens and saw flashing lights outside the bar. “I’ve never seen so many police cars in this area,” he said. The incident occured just when the Boston Police Department announced crime was down in the neighborhood by 13 percent compared to last year. Do you feel safe overall in Back Bay, and do you believe this was an isolated incident? Or do you think there's cause for concern in the neighborhood?

Fox News is reporting the name and age of the suspect that was killed in the South End on Tuesday night.
The suspect killed by police in the South End on Tuesday night has been identified by friends as 26-year-old Burrell Ramsey, according to Fox News. Boston Police have not yet released the name and would not confirm the identity of the suspect. Police enacted a traffic stop on Ramsey around 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday night, they said. That's when Ramsey pulled out a gun and began to flee, refusing to put down the weapon, police said. Ramsey ran down Dartmouth Street towards Columbus Street, police said. Two officers pursued him and one of them fired a shot, which hit him in the chest, killing him. He was later declared dead at Boston Medical Center. Dartmouth Street will be closed from 5 a.m. - 1 p.m. for work being done at Back Bay Station.
Massachusetts Department of Transportation traffic advisory: On Sunday, Aug. 5, Dartmouth Street in Boston will be closed between Columbus Avenue and Stuart Street. The closure will last from 5 a.m. to 1 p.m. The closure is to provide for a sufficient work area for the replacement of the existing HVAC units at Back Bay Station. During this process, a crane will be positioned on Dartmouth Street to replace the units. This work is associated with the Back Bay Station Improvement Project. Back Bay Station will remain open during this road closure.

A 22-year-old Boston woman allegedly hit, kicked and bit a uniformed detail officer Tuesday night at Back Bay Station, after he removed her from a Forest Hills-bound Orange Line train due to her unruly behavior, according to police. Aisha Abdi Yusuf was arrested for assault and battery with a dangerous weapon (shod foot) on a police officer, disorderly conduct and disturbing the peace. The Back Bay Association wrote a letter to the MBTA complaining about the number of homeless people creating a public safety hazard for morning commuters.
Fed up with homeless men and women sleeping outside and inside Back Bay Station, the Back Bay Association complained to the MBTA last week in a letter to General Manager Richard Davey. Meg Mainzer-Cohen, president of the Back Bay Association, said anywhere from three to 10 homeless people are wrapped in blankets outside Back Bay Station on any given morning and congregate in front of the flower shop before moving to different panhandling posts around the neighborhood. “When you look at people who come in from New York City on Amtrak, in order to leave, they basically have to walk over four homeless people wrapped in newspapers and surrounded by garbage from whatever meal they were eating,” she said. “I see it as a public safety hazard. …
