Newbury Street business owners and neighborhood leaders came together to celebrate the league's 40th anniversary at the Mandarin Oriental.
Hundreds celebrated the Newbury Street League's 40th anniversary in style during Thursday night's gala at the Mandarin Oriental. "I'm so proud to represent so many of you for 40 years," said Newbury Street League Executive Director Michele Messino. "Your success is our success." She gave a speical thank you to the league sponsors, and honored Newbury Street League founder Fay Rotenberg by committing to maintaining the flower garden in Fay Rotenberg Square at Clarendon and Newbury for a year. The business organization is looking for business support for its June 14 fundraising gala.
The Newbury Street League will be celebrating it's 40th anniversary gala, on June 14 at the Mandarin Oriental. With more than 500 "movers and shakers" expected to attend, the League is looking for businesses to make a donation, corporate sponsorship or place an ad in the program guide to help raise funds for the businesses organization. The money goes toward the beautification of Newbury Street and support of member businesses. The evening will include a silent auction, raffle prizes, gift certificates, special guest celebrities and live music by Boston's Sweet Tooth and the Sugarbabies. Tickets are $100 each. On April 24 about 60 business leaders came together at the Creperie for a networking event with Back Bay Patch and the Newbury Street League. The evening featured an open bar and raffle prizes with Patch swag, and was a great way to introduce some of the hands-on features of Patch - including the option to claim your free listing on our site. After 15 years, the Newbury Street League has moved their offices to 290 Dartmouth Street, Suite L1, which is on the Lower Level in the Vendome Building. The Neighborhood Association of the Back Bay office is also located there. "This is a great new central location for the office," said Newbury Street League Executve Director Michele Messino. The league moved out of the 93 Massachusetts Ave location because the building is behing rehabbed for a new furniture store - Room and Board - that will occupy the full space.
Permanent concrete sign bases with an interchangeable display may soon replace the sandwich boards which often line the street.
Be gone, sandwich boards. The Newbury Street League is working with the city to adopt a standardized sign policy for the high-end shopping artery. Businesses will be able to create and move custom-designed signs inside a uniform concrete base that will be permanently installed outside store fronts. With one sign per building, tenants will work together to determine how to best utilize the two-sided display. Current Sandwich Boards Are Illegal The policy is meant to replace the plethora of sandwich boards that often clutter the street and block pedestrian traffic, particularly during the summer and on weekends.
