Boston's New Public Safety Strategies for Summer

Boston Police will increase walking and bicycle beats during June, July and August, primarily in high-crime areas.

Expect to see more Boston Police in the neighborhoods this summer as part of Boston's public safety plan for this summer. Increasing cop bike and walking beats, is just one of many ways the city plans on having a safe summer. Using technology, increasing engagement with the community, and offering opportunities to youths, were some of the main points highlighted by Boston Mayor Thomas Menino on Thursday, in a press conference with city police, school, and human services personnel. Along with increasing bike and walk beats, Boston Police’s current class of recruits will be deployed to target heavy crime areas after graduating in July. Police Talk to Beacon Hill Residents About Safety After Recent Rape

Officers said that finding the rapist is a top priority and they offered tips on keeping safe.

After a series of disturbing crimes on Beacon Hill over the past month, most frighteningly the home invasion and rape of a woman last weekend, nearly 70 people turned out Thursday night to hear police officers discuss the cases and give tips on how to keep safe.  “When stuff like this happens it kind of makes everyone afraid,” Capt. Tom Lee, commander of the downtown district, told the crowd. "But we don’t want to frighten everybody. This is a very safe neighborhood." The sexual assault has shaken the sense of security for many on the Hill. The crime happened around 2:30 a.m. on Nov. 10 as the woman was walking home. She saw the man but didn't think he was a threat, Lee said. He followed her home, flashed what looked like a knife, robbed …

Police have not made an arrest in Wednesday's quadruple stabbing on Tremont Street.

All four victims of the quadruple stabbing at 73 Tremont St. Wednesday afternoon, including one initially listed in critical condition, are expected to live, District Attorney Dan Conley's press secretary, Jake Wark, said today. Wark did not say whether the police have a suspect but said that nobody has yet been arrested in connection to the crime. Two of the victims were on witness lists – meaning they might be called to testify – for a first-degree murder trial in Superior Court, which has since been halted, and were on their way back from court when they were stabbed. The murder case involves the shooting death of 24-year-old Toneika Jones in Dorchester two years ago. But, Wark said, the stabbing could be unrelated: "There is no …

Police Ready Helicopters for Super Bowl

Police will be out in full force, using a helicopter to keep a tight lid on the Fenway and North Station areas Sunday.

Boston police are urging Patriots fans to celebrate responsibly this weekend but are planning to keep tight control of the city in case things get out of control. To help them keep an eye on fans, especially in the Fenway and North Station areas, police will have helicopters out that can take incriminating photos of out-of-control partiers or quickly direct officers to any problem areas, according to an article in the Boston Herald.  “Don’t do things that will get you in trouble, because our detectives will pursue anyone who breaks things and assaults people,” Boston police Commissioner Edward F.
