Boston Herald Endorses Senator Scott Brown; Elizabeth Warren Also Picks Up Nods

The Boston Herald endorsed Senator Scott Brown on Wednesday; his Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren has recently had several endorsements as well.

The Boston Herald endorsed Senator Scott Brown on Wednesday, praising what the newspaper called his "fiscal sanity and bipartisanship." Brown would be more likely than his Democratic foe, the Herald editorial board argued, to stay out of lockstep with their respective party leadership. Democrats have made much of the fact that, should he win election to a full term, Brown would represent a vote in favor of the current GOP leadership. But Brown at least has a track record of breaking with that same GOP leadership and representing a more moderate voice. We’re less certain that Elizabeth Warren would challenge Harry Reid & Co. on important issues. Endorsement season is in full swing, as the election looms 13 days away on Tuesday, Nov. 6.  …

Warren Out-Fundraises Brown in Third Quarter by Several Million

Warren out raised Brown by $4.5 million in the third quarter, according to fundraising totals released on Monday by each campaign.

U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren's campaign announced Monday it has raised more than $12.1 million in the third quarter this year, out-raising incumbent Senator Scott Brown by $4.5 million. Brown's campaign had its best fundraising total to date this quarter, at $7.45 million. The Brown campaign enters the home stretch with approximately $10.2 million cash on hand.  About 80 percent of Warren's contributors were donation amounts of $50 or less, and $7 million was raised in September alone, the campaign said. “Tens of thousands of people across Massachusetts have joined this campaign because they know that Elizabeth will fight for them in the U.S. Senate,” said Michael Pratt, Finance Director. "This strong support will help propel the…

Scott Brown Picks Up Endorsement from Former Mass. Gov. Weld

William Weld endorsed incumbent U.S. Senate candidate Scott Brown on Friday.

Former Massachusetts Gov. William Weld endorsed incumbent U.S. Senator Scott Brown on Friday, calling him a "breath of fresh air," and "motivated by open-minded independence." “Scott isn’t swayed by pressure from the special interests, but rather by what makes good sense for the people of Massachusetts,"  said Weld. "He is a sorely-needed moderate voice, and his independent streak is exactly what we need to break through the partisan gridlock that too often grips Washington, D.C."  The endorsement came during a press conference at Brown's South Boston headquarters. Brown, a Republican, is in what polls say is a tight race with Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren. Brown credited Weld with "helping to bring the Massachusetts economy back …

Scott Brown and Elizabeth Warren to Debate Oct. 1 in Lowell

The debate will be moderated by “Meet the Press” anchor David Gregory and will begin at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1.

The second debate between U.S. Senate incumbent Scott Brown and Democratic candidate Elizabeth Warren is slated for Monday night and the meetup promises to be a showdown.  A Week of Back and Forth Since the first debate between the two candidates a week ago, Brown's campaign has been pressing Warren on her claim to Native American ancestry. “Professor Warren claimed she was a Native American, a person of color — and as you can see, she is not,” Brown said at the debate, inferring Warren got special treatment from her employers because of her heritage.  ”I didn’t get an advantage because of my background,” Warren said. However, Scott's campaign may have pressed the issue too far. A video surfaced this week that reportedly shows Brown …

Warren Should Focus on Brown as a Republican To Win, Local Democrats Say

After three polls released last week showed Elizabeth Warren ahead of Scott Brown, while another showed Brown ahead of Warren, Patch surveyed influential Massachusetts Democrats to get their take on the tight race.

Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Elizabeth Warren should focus on Sen. Scott Brown's Republican affiliation and continue to tie him to the national GOP during the final stretch of his campaign: that's the main finding of this week's Blue Commonwealth survey of influential Massachusetts Democrats. Three polls by three separate polling organizations showing Warren ahead of Brown—but barely—were released early last week.  Further illustrating how tight the race has become, hours after Patch sent the survey out to Massachusetts Republicans, another poll by UMass Lowell and the Boston Herald showed Brown ahead of Warren by 6 points, with a 5.5 percent margin of error, after an UMass Lowell/Herald poll nine months ago had Warren leading by 7. …

Brown Should Focus on Economy To Beat Warren, Local Republicans Say

After three polls released last week showed Elizabeth Warren ahead of Scott Brown, while another showed Brown ahead of Warren, Patch surveyed influential Massachusetts Republicans to get their take on the tight race.

Republican Sen. Scott Brown should focus on the economy during the final stretch of his campaign to fend off Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren's rise in the polls: that's the main finding of this week's Red Commonwealth survey of influential Massachusetts Republicans. PHOTOS: Senior March Against Government 'Gobbling Up' Social Security, Medicare

Dozens of senior citizens donned turkey outfits and marched to Sen. John Kerry's and Sen. Scott Brown's offices to urge them not to cut programs the elderly depend on.

In response to Congress' failure to reach a deal on how to balance the budget, about 50 senior citizens dressed as turkeys rallied outside of Sen. John Kerry and Sen. Scott Brown's offices Tuesday afternoon. The seniors met with the senators' staff to tell them not to 'gobble up' social security, Medicare and Medicaid in their attempts to solve the country's debt crisis.  "I think folks understand that the threat to these programs is really strong," said Carolyn Villers, an activist with Mass Senior Action Council, which organized the protest along with the National Committee to Preserve Social Security & Medicare. A simultaneous rally was held at Kerry's office in Springfield.  "Without Medicaid, Medicare, I wouldn't have any hope," Mary …
