Giuliani Visits Marathon Memorial, Campaigns With Gomez

Ex-NYC mayor calls Senate hopeful "a man of great accomplishment."

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani praised U.S. Senate Republican nominee Gabriel Gomez in Boston Thursday as a man who's demonstrated "a willingness to give his life for his country." Giuliani campaigned with Gomez in Back Bay as the two spoke at a press conference shortly after visiting the Copley Square memorial for the Boston Marathon bombings. "This is a man of great accomplishment and this is exactly what we need in Washington right now," said Giuliani of Gomez, the Cohasset businessman and former U.S. Navy SEAL. "The mayor knows just want kind of a dangerous world we live in," Gomez said, referring to Giuliani's experience as mayor during the 9/11 attacks.  Gomez and Giuliani criticized the Democratic nominee, Malden …

Markey is such a sleazy politician. Whether you're liberal moderate or conservative, here's the problem. Markey just wants to be a lifetime politician and he has no personal convictions. Where does he diverge from the liberal Democratic base, name one issue. He just figures out what the most popular position is and that becomes his position. Scott Brown was at odds with Republicans on many issues…   more ›

Candidates Defend Iraq War Votes, Campaign Ads Aplenty

A look back at what happened over the past week in the U.S. Senate race.

The Democratic candidates for Senate this week talked about the war in Iraq, launched more television ads, opened regional and local campaign offices and continued to get the word out as the April 30 primary draws near. This past week marked the 10-year anniversary of the start of the Iraq war, and with a hotly contested U.S. Senate Primary just over a month away, both Congressmen seeking the Democratic nomination found themselves defending their votes. Democratic opponents Congressmen Stephen Lynch (D-South Boston) and Edward Markey (D-Malden) both voted to use force in Iraq, but the two Senate candidates disagreed on a vote the following year to approve $87.5 billion to fund the war. Markey or Lynch: Who Would You Vote for Today?

Democratic congressmen Ed Markey and Stephen Lynch will face off in a primary on April 30 in the race to fill the Massachusetts Senate seat vacated by new Secretary of State John Kerry.

We have a race. On Thursday, U.S. Rep. Stephen Lynch became the second candidate to officially enter the race to fill the Senate seat vacated by new Secretary of State John Kerry, following his fellow Democratic Congressman Ed Markey. Lynch and Markey will now face off in a primary set for April 30 for the right to represent the Democratic Party in the special election on June 25 against a still unknown Republican opponent, as no GOP candidate has officially entered the race yet. Former U.S. Senator Scott Brown fired an early salvo against Markey, but said on Friday that he would not run for Senate. There are differences between Lynch and Markey, despite being members of the same party. Lynch voted against Obamacare, officially called the …

Gov. Patrick Names William 'Mo' Cowan Interim Senator

Markey is in, Lynch set to make an announcement Thursday and Brown reportedly considering throwing his hat into the race following Tuesday’s nomination of John Kerry as Secretary of State

With Tuesday's official confirmation of U.S. Senator John Kerry to the post of Secretary of State, the field is opening up with folks vying for Kerry's seat in his unexpired term in the U.S. Senate. But before that even happens an interim senator has to be named.  On Wednesday, Governor Deval Patrick announced his former chief of staff William “Mo” Cowan will be the interim senator and will serve until a new senator is elected in the June 25 special election. Patch reported in December that Cowan, a Stoughton resident, would be stepping down this month and returning to the private sector. Besides being Patrick’s former chief of staff, Cowan also served as chief legal counsel to Governor Patrick, having served in the Patrick-Murray …
