PHOTOS: Celebrating Bastille Day with a Block Party

People celebrated France's national holiday with music, food and more during a Marlborough Street fair on Friday.

Sweet smells and French music wafted along Marlborough Street on Friday as people came together to celebrate Bastile Day, France's national holiday. It commemorates the storming of the Bastille prision in 1789, and celebrates the people's uprising against the monarchy and espouses the three pillars of the French republic: Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity. Hosted by the French Cultural Center, between 6 - 10 p.m. they celebrated with live music, dancing, food and friends.

French Cultural Center Prepares for Bastille Day Block Party

Marlborough Street will be blocked off from 6-11 p.m. on July 13 to accommodate 2,000 revelers dancing in the street!

  More than 2,000 revelers will celebrate in the street Friday from 6 - 10 p.m. with live music, dancing, French food (think delicious crepes!) and more to celebrate Bastille Day. Hosted by the French Cultural Center, the strip of Marlborough Street will be blocked off between between Clarendon and Berkeley streets in honor of France's national holiday on July 14. It commemorates the storming of the Bastille prision in 1789, and celebrates the people's uprising against the monarchy and espouses the three pillars of the French republic: Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity. Street Closings Today and Friday for Road Race and Bastille Day

Streets will be closed for the JP Morgan Corporate Challenge Road Race on Thursday, and the French Cultural Center's Bastille Day celebration on Friday.

Special events taking place in the City of Boston between Thursday, July 12, and Friday, July 13, require temporary parking restrictions and may disrupt traffic.  Drivers should be aware of these events and seek alternate routes. VIDEO: 2,000 Show for Bastille Day Celebration on Marlborough Street

The French Cultural Center closed down the block for the July 15 street festival.

Boston's French Cultural Center's 36th Bastille Day Party returned to Marlborough Street in fine fashion.  The block between Berkeley Street and Clarendon Street was blocked off to accommodate what was a 2,000 person street festival.  Party goers enjoyed lots of French wine and food, and performers included Afro-Pop artist Yoro Ndiaye and multi-genre Rupa & The April Fishes.
