MBTA Police Seeking Assault Suspect

Transit police said suspect "inappropriately assaulted" a female boarding the Green Line C trolley at Park Street last week.

MBTA Police are searching for a male suspect they say "inappropriately assaulted" a female last week at Park Street Station. According to transit police on their website, the male assaulted the female last Tuesday, May 14, while boarding a Green Line C trolley at Park Street. The suspect is a white male who was wearing a red shirt at the time of the incident as well as a gray hooded sweatshirt with black horizontal stripes, blue jeans and sneakers. Anyone who knows the identity of the suspect or knows their whereabouts is encouraged to call the MBTA's Criminal Investigations Unit at 617-222-1050. Signs of Spring at Mayor's Coffee Hour

Menino was not present but city officials were there to answer questions.

Mayor Thomas Menino did not attend Tuesday's Boston Parks and Recreation Department Neighborhood Coffee Hour Series at Clarendon Street Play Lot in Back Bay, however several city officials were on hand to take questions from residents. City property chief Mike Galvin and city parks and recreation commissioner Toni Pollak were among the officials who appeared. Pollak said the city grows followers at their greenhouses at Franklin Park to hand out to residents at these events and Tuesday was no different. She said it started as a Mother's Day tradition and grew into a spring tradition. "It really is about beautifying the city we all love, and the mayor wants you to have a little piece of that," Pollak said. Pollak commented on the excitement …

Suffolk County Sobriety Checkpoint Planned Thursday

Massachusetts State Police will be on the lookout for people driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Massachusetts State Police will be operating a sobriety checkpoint this week at an undisclosed location in Suffolk County. The checkpoint will operate sometime between Thursday, May 23 and Friday, May 24. “The purpose is to further educate the motoring public and strengthen the public’s awareness to the need of detecting and removing those motorists who operate under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs from our roadways,” Colonel Timothy P. Alben, superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, said in a press release. Alben noted that, “The selection of vehicles will not be arbitrary, safety will be assured, and any inconveniences to motorists will be minimized with advance notice to reduce fear and anxiety.” For more information, …

Police: Man Charged with Tearing Side View Mirrors on Berkley Street

A Watertown man was charged with breaking side view mirrors on Beacon and Berkley Street. Boston Police Officers responded to a report of vandalism at about 2:22 a.m. on Saturday, 18 in the area of Beacon Street and Exeter Street. While en route, dispatch contacted the officers and told them that the suspect was seen breaking the side view mirrors off of cars as he walked outbound on Beacon Street. The witness was following the suspect down Beacon Street. Officers found a man who matched the provided description. As the police spoke to the suspect, the witness approached the officer and confirmed that this was the person they had seen kicking mirrors, sitting on the mirrors and ripping them off cars with his hands. What Back Bay Streets Are Scheduled For Resurfacing?

Mayor Thomas Menino's office released the full list of proposed streets for repaving.

The office of Boston Mayor Thomas Menino released a list Monday of streets proposed for repaving during the 2013 road work season. The total plans involve resurfacing 45 miles of road as well as 1,400 pedestrian ramps. “Our residents deserve the best roads and sidewalks in their neighborhoods. Not only are clean and safe passages a matter of public safety, they also help support our small businesses,” Menino said in a statement. “We’re looking forward to our best year yet in getting our roadways and pedestrian ramps ready for another great summer in Boston.”  Proposed work for 2013 will exceed the amount of work conducted in 2012, which was the most "productive" construction season in the last decade according to Menino's office. Police Interviewing Truck Driver Suspected of Hitting Bicyclist

An MIT scientist was killed on Sunday when her bicycle collided with a truck, police say.

Police believe they have found the truck driver who is suspected to have hit and killed an MIT scientist Kanako Miura while on her bike, but say the driver was not aware that he had hit anybody, the Boston Herald reported on Monday.  Boston Police tweeted on Monday afternoon that "the driver of the truck is talking to detectives and cooperating with the investigation." Police said no charges have been pressed, and the driver's identity has not been released.  Miura, 36, a native of Japan had been working at MIT for the last several months as a visiting scientist. She was killed in a bike accident on Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Beacon Street and Charlesgate West near Kenmore Square and Back Bay.

Another Major Project Proposed for TD Garden Area

A development company this week filed plans to build a mixed-use building at the entrance to the arena and North Station that would feature retail and office space, a hotel and up to 500 residential units.

Just three months after the city approved a 38-story mixed-use development that will be connected to TD Garden, a second major project has been proposed in that area of Boston's West End neighborhood, also with plans to connect to the arena. Developers Boston Properties Inc. and Delaware North Companies Inc., through the Boston Garden Development Corporation, filed a letter of intent this week with the Boston Redevelopment Authority seeking to construct a mix of retail and office space, hotel rooms and up to 500 residential units on about 2.8 acres of land at 80 Causeway Street. Cyclist Killed Sunday Was MIT Scientist

Dr. Kanako Miura, 36, of Japan, was killed in the Kenmore Square area on Sunday in a bike accident.

The Massachusetts Institute of Technology announced on Sunday the woman killed in a bike accident on Sunday in the Kenmore Square area was a 36-year-old visiting scientist.  Dr. Kanako Miura, 36, a visiting scientist at MIT and a native of Japan died during a collision with a motor vehicle on Sunday afternoon. Miura had been at MIT since the fall of 2012, the university said, and was on a one-year program in MIT’s computer science and artificial intelligence laboratory, where she worked on research contributing to robots, specifically creating life-like motion, according to her LinkedIn profile.  Miura had a B.E. in aerospace engineering, M.E and Ph.D. in information science from the Tohoku University, Japan.
